As a photographer, when you find out one of your best friends is pregnant, it’s kind of one of the most exciting things ever! It was music to my ears when Melissa told me that she wanted me to take maternity photos of her at the Arizona Rio Verde River wearing a long maternity gown. We planned and dreamed of her session long before most people knew she was even pregnant yet!
When the day came to make the drive out to the east valley of Arizona, I made sure to be extra prepared bringing a pregnant momma into the desert. I brought plenty of water and snacks to make sure she stayed hydrated and her sugar levels stable, towels to dry her off and a warm blanket for afterwards (it is December after all). Safety is always number one for me and whether it’s a best friend or a client I just met, I always make sure I try to have every angle covered at a session.
The weather was perfect and the golden hour light fell across Melissa in all the most gorgeous ways.
We saved the river photos for last and I am so glad we did! Just at the height of golden hour when the Arizona Red Mountains turn many shades of purples and pinks, a perfect colorful reflection was casted on top of the river. The backdrop needed nothing more to be breathtaking but we were blessed to have the Salt River Wild horses join us for the session. They made such a beautiful addition to Melissa’s maternity photos.
